Lessons from Tim Ferriss on how to move past fear and anxiety to find a lighter way.

You’d have to be more of a hermit than I am not to notice an increase in pace and intensity at this time of the year. The festive season can seem more like the frenetic season. Expectations tend to rise and the demands we place on ourselves can feel more burdensome than usual.

Relationships Australia research has identified this period as the most likely time of the year for many people to experience anxiety and depression(1). So, if you’re feeling the extra pressure know you’re not alone.

The mind is a powerful tool but it’s only a great tool if you know how to use it to best effect.

Author, pod-caster and entrepreneur, Tim Ferriss, has found ways to manage his fear and depression and shares here in a TED talk how he uses stoicism to regain control.

For those of you floating to combat stress or anxiety you may have already noticed a greater sense of calm and ‘space’ around events that would have previously disturbed your equilibrium. Thanks to Tim, you now have another tool to add to your kit.

As the year comes to a close and the pace increases, for some, ‘time-out’ may not have made it to the top of your to-do-list yet. When the heat is on, carving out some space for yourself to unwind and reset is even more important. When we take time to reflect on our expectations of ourselves and others with some healthy distance it can make a huge difference to how we feel and perform.
